McLaren P1 GTR Ayrton Senna: Made to measure by McLaren Special Operations
It's not the first time we see a model made to measured by McLaren thanks to the division called McLaren Special Operations, responsible for making these unique vehicles. Today, recalls the special relationship that the British team maintained with the mythical Ayrton Senna .
The vehicle chosen by McLaren is its top of the range, its most powerful and sporty model , the McLaren P1 GTR, to which they have added a special painting with the colors of Marlboro that the Brazilian wore in that legendary MP4/4 in 1988, to thus honor the first title that the Rio de Janeiro rider won .
The painting, called red rocket (Rocket Red) and anniversary white (Anniversary White), has been painted by hand in a process that lasted more than 800 hours . The body hides numerous details, such as the number 12 that Senna carried that season, as well as the phrase " Driven to perfection " (Driven to perfection) on the doors and on the steering wheel. All decorated with flags of Brazil and the logo of the pilot.
The McLaren P1 GTR with the motives of Senna has been possible thanks to the approval of the family of the motorsport star , and besides being modified from the outside, it is also inside. It has a 24-carat gold coating to isolate the heat from the engine, a steering wheel made in Alcantara with the Senna logo and the seats are the same as those of the McLaren Senna, the latest model launched by the British supercar firm.
Finally, the external modifications include numerous changes with respect to the original version. To changes in the interior is added a new front splitter, new aerodynamic elements in the body and in the rear, a longer wing and an updated diffuser , inspired by the one that was installed in the vehicle of Senna and probably helped him achieve better times in that season 30 years ago.
